Abstract:
You are Coach, Scrum master, or manager. Your teams are doing scrum for quite some time. They take it serious and are doing all the meetings consistently same time same place.
All the roles are in place and they know their responsibilities. The Team and the product owner are maintaining all the artefacts. In fact they are doing Scrum according to the book. So far the easy part.
But now comes the part that sometimes keeps you awake at night.
Some teams excel in speed, reliability, creativity, quality and commitment. But some others teams suffer from unclear user stories, ongoing discussions and conflicts, bad surprises often at the end of sprint, bad expectation management to their clients etc. You have spend a lot of time with them. A bunch of reasons and counteractions have already been tried, but none of them made a major difference.
What makes some teams learning fast and accelerate where others are making the same mistakes again and again?
In this session we look at the 7 preconditions of high performing Agile Teams. You can expect some useful insights from literature about teams and conditions for teamwork based on the research of Richard Hackman(Leading Teams) and Nonaka en Takeuchi(the New New Product Development Game)
- A real team, clear who’s on the team and how is not
- A compelling direction by explaining what and why
- Trust the teams and let them coming up with the how
- Cross function teams that represent the learning organisation
- Enabling structure with clear tasks and expectations
- A supporting organizational context by providing all things they need
- Expert coaching to help teams improving their performance
To turn the insights into practice we have a serious and funny exercise: Time boxed discussions based on value poker.
• First we have to self organize into a couple of teams and 1 Jury
• We present you a situation where you have to act as an Agile Coach / Scrum Master.
• In your teams you have to discuss and prepare your answer in a short timebox.
• Then all the teams have to present their answer to the Jury.
• The jury will value the answers using planning poker cards. We all know that the discussion is more important than the points you get, but in the end there is only one winning team!
